Pirates confident of catching up Chiefs, says captain

JOHANNESBURG — Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi is confident that they can defend their league title this season, despite trailing PSL log leaders Kaizer Chiefs by five points.

The Roger de Sa-led outfit have a game in hand. With nine league outings left in the 2012/13 campaign for Bucs, Lekgwathi believes that the team can clinch their third successive PSL crown.

On Saturday they will be playing against University of Pretoria and the captain has emphasised the importance of claiming all three points.

“We have to show as players that we are able to defend the league title. It’s in our hands now to defend the title. Every team is fighting for either the top eight or fighting relegation.

“This makes the last stage of the league always difficult. We have to make sure we are ready for the fight, until the end of the season, not just for us but for the chairperson, the supporters and the whole Pirates family,” Lekgwathi said.

With a five-point gap at the top of the table, Pirates will close the gap with Chiefs to two points if they win their game in hand against Ajax Cape Town.
