Police on the trail of sex fiend flasher who threatened to rape student

2010-08-13 00:00

A SEX fiend “flasher” in his mid-20s, who drives an old box-style silver grey VW Jetta, is being sought by police after he indecently exposed himself to a young student and chased her up the driveway of her Montgomery Drive home while masturbating and shouting obscenities at her.

Speaking to The Witness, the traumatised 19-year-old student, whose name is being withheld, said she was jogging back to her home after taking a run to Wylie Park on Saturday between 4.30 pm and 5 pm when the man appeared.

She noticed the Jetta drive past her as she jogged up Taunton Road, and then at the Howick Road robots she realised the young white man was naked below the waist.

“I thought at first that he was maybe changing his clothes in his car.

“He was right next to me and it felt very awkward.”

The student said that as she headed home she received a call on her cellphone so she slowed to a walk to talk to her friend, crossing the road and turning into Montgomery Drive, going past the Town Hill police station.

The incident took a nasty turn as she went into her driveway.

“All of a sudden the car spun into the driveway, tyres screeching, completely blocking it. I could see that the man was [masturbating] and then he jumped out of the passenger door side with no clothes on below his waist.

“He ran after me, swearing and saying ‘I’m going to rape you. I know where you live’.”

The young woman fled, screaming.

Her father heard her screaming and came out to see what had happenend, but the man had fled.

“It was like he was mad. I want him to be caught.

“He has a full head of blonde/brown curly hair and is a thin chap. He was wearing a black shirt and I saw in the car he had beige pants on, with a black bag in the seat.”

The Jetta is described as having rust on the left side bottom section. It appears that the wheel rims are different, or are not for that vehicle.

The student told The Witness that she believes that if she had not been in her driveway and able to get away quickly, the man would have raped her.

Police have asked anyone with any information that may help them in apprehending the man to contact the Town Hill branch commander, Bhekani Vilakazi, at 033 845 7789 or 082 459 7491.

Anyone who has had a similar encounter with this man can also contact Julia at The Witness at 033 3551139 or newsed@witness.co.za
