Police seek family of man found dead

POLICE are appealing for relatives of a 37-year-old man who was found dead at Jika Joe informal settlement to come forward.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan, the man’s body was found on June 3. He was later identified as Mandla Khethukuthula, with surnames Zulu or Tshabane.

“He had sustained no visible injuries, however a toxicology report is awaited to establish his exact cause of death,” said Jeevan.

She added that the police fingerprint system confirmed his identity and he is believed to be from the Ixopo area. His relatives could not be traced. It is believed that he frequently visited a local beer hall in Retief Street but was only known by his first name.

Police are making an appeal for the next of kin to urgently contact the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Bradford Stevens from SAPS Pietermaritzburg detective services at 033 845 2779 or on his cell on 074 811 7546.

An inquest docket has been registered.
