Police shoot Khuli Chana by mistake

2013-10-29 00:00

AWARD-winning South African rapper Khuli Chana was wounded in a comedy of errors that almost turned tragic when police mistook him for an abductor early yesterday.

Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Neville Malila said police had surrounded a well-known filling station on the N1 highway in Midrand at midnight and were waiting for an abductor to pick up the ransom when Chana (31) walked onto the scene.

Chana — whose real name is Khulane Morule — stopped for a cup of coffee on his way to a gig. As he climbed into his blue BMW, bullets started flying. The suspect was also driving a blue BMW.

A ricochet round went through his seat into his back and his hand was also hurt. He is recovering at home.
