Police work on Pistorius is complete

2013-08-14 00:00

THE police investigation into Reeva Steenkamp’s death is complete and the indictment against Oscar Pistorius is expected to be finalised by Monday.

Lieutenant-General Solomon Makgale, national spokesperson for the police, yesterday confirmed that the police investigation had been completed and a trial date could be set on Monday.

Makgale said the investigation team, which was led by Lieutenant-General Vineshkumar Moonoo, was convinced that the case against the accused was strong and that justice would prevail.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Bulelwa Makeke said yesterday the NPA was still working on the indictment and would give a final report on Monday, when Pistorius is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court again.

The trial date will be announced when the indictment is ready.

Makeke said the process to move the case to the high court in the city is also in place.

Pistorius may appear in the high court early next year. He is accused of shooting and killing Steenkamp on February 14 this year.
