Power: Hilton to remain off line

2013-04-10 00:00

THERE was yet another power outage in Hilton last night and according to sources it was because of a problem on the main 33KV line that feeds the suburb.

By 7 pm it was not clear how long it would take to fix the problem but indications were that residents could be in for a long, cold, dark night. The outage came at a bad time for municipal workers who are trimming trees touching the power lines in the suburb.

The municipality said it had disseminated its tree-trimming schedule via the Internet and on the Facebook page of the Hilton Residents Association.

Yesterday the power was switched off around the Monzali Estate and in the Winterskloof area, while the trees were trimmed.

It was supposed to come back on again, but this did not happen because of the bigger power failure on the main line.

Tree will be cut today in the Budleigh, Valley and Dennis Shepstone Road areas. If power is restored, it will remain disconnected in these two sections to ensure the safety of workers cutting branches near the power lines.
