Prestbury gusher: burst pipe jets water ‘higher than the trees’

2011-07-06 00:00

Water poured from a burst pipe under a driveway down Brookby Crescent in Prestbury yesterday morning. Residents in the area reported hearing a crack early in the morning and then the water started gushing. The property owner Jen Everett said she called the municipality as soon as she became aware of the water pouring out at 7.15 am. Another resident said the volume of water “could have filled a swimming pool in 10 minutes”. At one point the water leak exploded and the water shot up into the air higher than the trees like a fountain, said Everett. She praised the municipal workers who once they arrived after 9am had mended the leak by 1pm and the damaged driveway by 3pm.
