Prince tweets his support for Suarez

CAPE TOWN — Controversial Liverpool footballer Luis Suarez has earned some support for his suspension plight from a slightly unlikely source — South African Test batting stalwart Ashwell Prince.

Suarez has been suspended and fined by the Football Association in England over charges of racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra, and more recently for a gesture made to Fulham fans.

But Prince, a known staunch Reds supporters and decent soccer player in his Eastern Cape youth, has used his relatively new Twitter account to protest the treatment of the striker.

Ahead of yesterday’s fourth day’s play in the Test against Sri Lanka in Durban, he said: “Suarez is better off going to Spain. Play with better players, better service, better league. Oh, he must be in UK for the lovely weather!”

A little earlier, the left-handed stroke-player tweeted: “FA is a joke; accuse a man of racism then ban him for exactly the same offence that three of their own got away with. Talk about discrimination!”

And back on December 21, Prince had said: “Suarez 8 games! [His ban for the racism offence]. Good luck JT [Chelsea’s John Terry]. Always three sides to a story. We all know that governing bodies find a way to get their desired results.”
