Pro-Zuma musicians release CD

2007-11-18 00:00

Executive producer and compiler of the album Sizwe Cele said they are concerned with the social state of affairs because issues such as HIV/Aids are not addressed properly by government.

“For a person like Msholozi [Zuma's nickname] to have his rights infringed is scary. Imagine what can happen to an ordinary guy like me,” he said. He also said that artists have shown support that he must be strong and soldier on.

Hip hop artist Zuluboy said he wants to express issues the way he sees them.

“I'm an artist, I don't do politics. It was me expressing what I see in the streets,” he said.

Many of the artists told The Witness that they cannot stand and watch while Zuma's rights are being infringed. Maskandi musician Mfiliseni Magubane said that it would be good if Zuma is given a chance to be president.

“ … As citizens, especially in the black communities, we feel that should Msholozi be given an opportunity, he will seek to address those issues … ” he said.

Well known DJ Black Coffee said that as an artist, for him this was a job. “I'm an independent producer therefore I work with anyone. I was approached to compose a dance beat on the uMshini Wami song and I did it. I was not trying to make a political statement,” he said.

He added that he will support anyone in power as long as they produce the required results.
