Probe into alleged rape outside club

2014-10-07 00:00

POLICE are investigating a case of rape which is alleged to have taken place outside Cubana Lounge over the weekend.

The rape allegedly took place in the parking lot of the Invesco Centre at around 1.30 am on Sunday morning after the 21-year-old victim left Cubana Lounge.

The victim was allegedly hauled into a parked car where she was raped by an unknown suspect.

Cubana’s Thulani Ndhlovu said they were “unaware” of the incident.

Wayne Lochner, from the Invesco Centre, said they were unable to comment at this stage.

“We have enough security measures in place at the moment to ensure the safety of our clientele,” Lochner said.

According to police Captain Thulani Zwane, a case of rape is being investigated by the Pietermaritzburg SAPS and no arrests have been made.

This is not the first violent incident that has happened in and around the vicinity of Cubana on a busy night.

In May this year, The Witness reported an incident where a group of women were allegedly assaulted outside the popular club after a heated argument with a man inside the premises.
