Process of investigation, outcomes of Gupta landing

2013-10-04 00:00

THE Gupta landing was initially investigated by a group of five departments’ directors-general — Home Affairs, Defence, Justice, Police and International Relations and Co-operation.

The investigation led among other outcomes, to the suspension and demotion of Bruce Koloane, former head of State Protocol. The brief of the investigating team was that each department must investigate internal defects.

The SANDF held its own inquiry, which in July concluded its report and submitted this to the Chief of the Defence Force, General Solly Shoke.

The military inquiry identified five air force members for possible prosecution, and the military legal division is conducting a preliminary investigation to see if there are enough grounds to prosecute them. Evidence from this investigation, together with the findings of the military inquiry, will be submitted to the director of military prosecution for a decision if anyone must be prosecuted. After this decision has been taken, the accused air force members will appear in front of a military court. From what has been learned, the court case will start before year end.
