Proteas undergo fitness assessments ahead of tour

2014-06-19 00:00

CAPE TOWN — The Proteas will assemble at Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Centre of Excellence in Pretoria for a fitness camp.

The squad to be assessed will be made up of 14 contracted players and fringe players involved in the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka.

Hashim Amla, Alviro Petersen and Robin Peterson will be absent due to their English County commitments, while Lonwabo Tsotsobe continues to make steady progress following ankle surgery in April.

The players will undergo fitness and physical assessments during the camp, as preparation for the two Test and three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka starting in Colombo on July 6 shifts up a gear.

A High Performance squad which features a number of players who will make up the South Africa “A” squad to tour Australia in August will also be assessed.
