Provincial hockey finalists decided

YESTERDAY’S sixth day of the SA U21 men’s and women’s inter- provincial hockey tournaments, in Pretoria and Durban respectively, saw the finalists decided.

In the women’s U21 semi-finals at Queensmead in Durban, defending champs Southern Gauteng were beaten 8-0 by Western Province. North West edged Northern Blues 3-2 on a penalty shootout after the scores were locked 1-1 at full-time.

In the men’s U21 semi-finals at Tuks in Pretoria, Northern Blues shaded Free State 2-1 and KZN Raiders lost 2-0 to Western Province.

The gold medal matches at both venues will be at 6.30 pm today.

The KZN Inland women beat Eastern Province in a penalty shootout and will play Free State in Saturday’s play-off for fifth place in Durban. KZN Coastal Raiders will now face EP in the play-off for seventh place. The KZN Inland men will tackle WP Peninsula for fifth place in Pretoria, while KZN Raiders will meet Free State in the bronze medal match.
