Pupils go on four-day tour of Midlands

2014-07-01 00:00

Twenty-five pupils selected from three local schools — Laduma High, Willowfontein and Silwanetshe — are being taken on a four-day tour of significant sites around the Midlands.

The tour is called the Zurura Schools Tour project, an initiative of the Msunduzi Pietermaritzburg Tourism Association (MPTA), aimed at taking locals to surrounding tourist attractions.

They will visit Old Prison, Manayi Hall, Heroes’ Acre, Peace Monument, DCO Matiwane Museum, Qanda Rock, Georgetown/Edendale area, Komkhulu — Chief Zondi’s residence, the Mandela Capture site, Howick Museum, the wall of reconciliation — Nokulunga memorial site, Sarmcol, Baynesfield Museum and the Nobhiyana Madondo site.

The tour project is also intended to complement the school’s curriculum, to bring to reality the learning that students do at school.
