Rabies scare: clinic to be set up

2015-04-01 00:00

A VACCINATION clinic will be set up in Howick tomorrow to address fears of rabies being spread from a jackal that is terrorising the town.

The free clinic will be set up between 8 am and 12 pm outside the Howick Community Church.

The jackal was spotted again on Monday afternoon near the corner of Symmonds Lane and Andrew Street.

Knight Security’s Debbie Preston yesterday sent out a release, asking residents to report any sighting of the jackal immediately.

“This animal is posing a serious safety and health concern for Howick residents and their pets. It needs to be caught so we can confirm if it is rabid or not,” she said.

“Its behaviour indicates that it is rabid, and if this is the case, then it may well die in the next few days.”

The Witness reported on Monday that the same jackal attacked a resident, biting her on the forearm, and another resident’s dog on Friday.

Howick residents are urged to report any sighting of the jackal, dead or alive, by contacting Ginette Mitchell at 082 566 9673 or Knight Security Solutions at 033 330 5911.
