Race to support Pink Drive

2014-10-31 00:00

DUST off your running shoes and get ready for another much-anticipated edition of The Witness Maritzburg City Marathon scheduled for February.

Over 6 000 road runners are expected to participate in the 2015 race, which was launched at the Imperial Protea Hotel yesterday.

The renowned race, which is powered by Clover, changed its colours from blue to pink in honour of women living with cancer.

Race chief organiser John Hall said preparations are in full swing.

“We have already started. We never stop preparing because this is one of the most prestigious marathons in the city which takes time to prepare,” he said.

Hall said they have community outreach programmes to attract locals to participate in and support the race.

“We are proud that we put every effort into making it possible for every athlete to achieve their goals.”

There will be no reason to leave your children at home as there are activities planned for the whole weekend.

Dumisani Mhlongo from Msunduzi Municipality’s tourism office said the race has become one of the most popular and respected races in the country and contributes immensely to the city’s economy.

The race takes place on February 22. Online registration opens on Monday, November 3.
