Rain cuts power to Hilton …●again

2013-10-21 00:00

RESIDENTS of Winterskloof and Hilton were without electricity for most of the weekend as power lines were affected by the rainy weather.

The Hilton Ratepayers’ Association Facebook page kept up a lively commentary on the situation, offering rainy day suggestions to those who were stuck indoors.

“Why is it always rainy when the electricity is off — Murphy’s law?” queried one of the members. Another resident said that the noise of generators was like a horde of mosquitos that could not be scared off with citronella.

A cheerful resident said her daughter had resorted to making crumpets for breakfast on the gas hob. The electricity was restored in most parts by lunchtime yesterday.

In recent months Hilton electricity supply has been stable and the municipality promised to repair dysfunctional sub-stations that caused regular power outages.

The repairs to the Retief street sub-station were estimated to cost R70 million.

Later in the day, the power also went off in Montrose.

Efforts to contact the municipality yesterday were fruitless. — Witness Reporter.
