Rain-jinxed Dolphins pin hopes on Tahir

AFTER the weather interrupted Wednesday night’s One-day Cup match against the Titans at Kingsmead, Dolphins vice-captain Daryn Smit says the team was left frustrated and will be looking to win their remaining two fixtures this week.

Chasing 253 to win the game in Durban, the Dolphins faced 19 overs before the rain came, with the home side stranded on 97/2. They needed to face one more over in order to constitute a match, and had that occurred the Dolphins would have won the game as they were ahead of the Duckworth Lewis winning total of 83/2.

“The conditions at Kingsmead were difficult. It seemed as if the pace bowlers were ill-disciplined, but the ball was hard to control in those conditions. The fact that the Titans bowled 18 wides in their 18 overs showed this,” said Smit.

Key for the Dolphins bowlers were Cameron Delport, who finished with figures of 4/42, and Imraan Khan, who finishing on 2/25.

“I suppose you could call the Dolphins the rain specialists and the country’s factory of quality medium pace and spin bowlers,” Smith joked.

“The result on Wednesday means that we will have to beat the Lions and then the Knights on Sunday in order to achieve our objective.”

The Dolphins take on the struggling Lions in Potchefstroom today and they will be looking to Proteas spinner Imran Tahir to be a factor.

“Tahir bowled well last [Wednesday] night. He was a bit upset that he didn’t take any wickets, but he needed the time in the middle to get his confidence back,” said Smit.

While the Dolphins go into tonight’s match feeling frustrated after being close to getting full points against the Titans, they do so in third position on the log, three points ahead of the Knights. The Cobras and the Warriors still top the table with only the run rate separating them.
