Rape charge: no show at court

2011-07-08 00:00

A SENIOR KwaZulu-Natal advocate, who is facing charges of rape and indecent assault of a teenage girl, failed to make a scheduled appearance in the Durban regional court yesterday as he was in hospital.

A warrant for his arrest was issued by the court, as is routine in such cases, but the execution was stayed pending his next court appearance.

The accused cannot be named until he has pleaded to the charges because they involve sexual offences.

He is alleged to have indecently assaulted a 15-year-old girl in 2007, and is charged with rape of the same victim on July 17, 2010.
