Rates: residents urged to launch association

2010-09-15 00:00

GROWING complaints from frustrated residents over high and inconsistent water and electricity bills has pushed the Msunduzi Rates Forum (MRF) to move with urgency to form a combined ratepayers’ association.

A public meeting will be held tonight at the Northdale Civic Centre, Bombay Road, starting at 7 pm. All residents in the northern suburbs are urged to attend.

MRF committee members who were on a pamphlet blitz at the weekend said they were inundated with complaints. However, they cannot take up issues with the municipal authorities, who want to know whom they represent and how many people attend their meetings.

The MRF has called on the community to attend tonight’s meeting in their numbers to revive the combined ratepayers’ association, which was once at the forefront of major civic battles with the municipality. It said this is the only way that residents who feel increasingly overcharged as the municipality goes all out to recoup the money lost by the previous administration can get their voices heard.
