Reach Out needs your help

2011-05-13 00:00

REACH Out, an organisation that aims to help destitute children and elders at the informal settlement of France township is lending a helping hand and needs others to join their cause.

The organisation deals with high levels of poverty, unemployment and HIV that face the township.

The Founding Executive Director of the organisation, Melanie du Plessis said, “Many of the children in the area are AIDS orphans and most of them are forced to fend for themselves.”

The organisation is appealing to businesses and the community at large to assist in the plight of child-headed households.

“These children are living under extreme hardship, with stresses and strains that they are forced to experience on a daily basis. The situation is totally unacceptable,” Du Plessis added.

The organisation has already built a community facility centre that helps children who are fending for themselves.

The organisation is pleading with companies to make a monthly contribution of R300 that will make a difference in young people’s lives.

“For every company that donates, we’ll insert their logo onto our webpage as an advertisement,” she explained.

The organisation is currently taking care of 50 child-headed homes and they also give them life skills and teach them English. For more information go to www.reachout.org.za or call 033 346 2631. — Witness Reporter.
