Readers offer help for poor 55-year-old mother

2007-11-27 00:00

Miriam Dingalibala told The Witness on Monday that the baby’s 56-year-old father is also an ill person and they are both without any income or state grants.

About seven people said they will be donating to the mother goods that include milk powder, clothes, medication, money and a pram.

Some of the things will be dropped off at the Witness offices, while some people preferred to visit the mother themselves.

One of the donors is a local logistics company owner who preferred not to be named and said he was helping in his personal capacity.

Several other donors also wanted to remain anonymous.

Dingalibala lives at Phase 5 in the France low-cost housing settlement and said she only realised in the eighth month that she was pregnant.

Last Wednesday, she gave birth in her tiny home while waiting for an ambulance.

The family live in abject poverty, receiving some help from neighbours.
