Remarkable year for young golfer

2012-10-23 00:00

IT has been a remarkable year for young Keaton Bottriell from Hilton College. He turned 15 just two months ago, and with his achievements this year looks to be a golf star of the future.

Bottriell has represented KZN in competitions in three age groups this year. He captained the Nomads KZN U15 Golf team in Somerset West earlier in the year, where the KZN team was placed third and Bottriell was seventh in a field of 115 players.

Later in the year, he represented his province in the Nomads South African U17 Stroke play championships in Pretoria. He again had the best score of the KZN contingent where KZN was placed seventh overall. In difficult conditions, he was 23rd overall in a field of 66.

Hilton then won the KZN School Golf Championships in Durban and Bottriell, together with Greg Royston of Kearsney, had the best individual score. He was then selected for the KZN U19 team, which played in the Interprovincial Schools championship this month in Koro Creek in Limpopo province.

The final feather in his cap was to be selected for the SA Schools Golf team, thus ending a marvellous year for this tender-aged young fellow.
