Residents concerned over blood tubes

2010-10-21 00:00

A PILE of unused medical blood sample tubes dumped with the rubbish in Institute Road in Prestbury yesterday has raised concern among residents in the neighbourhood

They believe it could be a health risk.

The pile of unused plastic tubes labelled “Mixwell” was dumped in a garbage bag awaiting collection.

Concerned residents say they found the tubes, which are used to store blood samples, scattered in their garbage.

They said they are worried about the presence of medical supplies because they are not sure if they were contaminated and if they could pose a health problem.

Said a resident, “When I woke up I found these medical supplies dumped here.

“I am not sure how they got here, but our house is close to the main medical supplies depot for the Health Department.”

“These things are scattered all over the area, which means that the children have probably been playing with them.”

The residents said having the Health Department supply store in their neighbourhood is a problem when large trucks come to collect the supplies and block the road for hours.

The street is a short one with seven houses.
