Resigning Roy Bhoola warns MF

2014-05-28 00:00

IN parting ways with his former party, ex-Minority Front MP Roy Bhoola warned his former colleagues that they will be deserted by the remaining party loyalists if they continue infighting.

“Despite the internal battles within the Minority Front, many voters continued to support the party. You have received a mandate,” Bhoola said in his resignation letter. “However, if you continue internal infighting and factionalism, by 2016 even the loyalists will have left.”

Bhoola resigned on Monday after serving for 10 years as a MF MP.

Over the past year Bhoola had been embroiled in a leadership dispute with incumbent leader Shameen Thakur-Rajbansi over the party leadership.

This began after Minority Front founding leader Amichand Rajbansi died in December 2011, when one party faction elected Bhoola as the leader at a conference in Durban.

But another faction aligned to Thakur-Rajbansi insisted the conference was illegal and took the matter to court.

The two factions reached an-out-of-court settlement last December with Thakur-Rajbansi remaining as party leader. — WR.
