Richmond: murders driven by revenge?

2011-05-31 00:00

POLICE in Richmond are investigating two cases of murder that are thought to be motivated by revenge.

The latest murder occurred on Sunday where Sibongiseni Mbanjwa (27) was shot three times in the stomach in the Esigcakini area at about 7 pm.

He was walking with his girlfriend when the attack took place.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said police have video footage linking Mbanjwa’s murder to that of Mpi Sindane (28).

Sindane was killed on May 27 outside a hotel in Shepstone Street at about 11 pm. He was allegedly sitting in the hotel when he was approached by a man who was known to him.

“It is alleged that a short while later Sindane got up and both men left the premises.

“Upon exiting the building the man produced a knife and stabbed Sindane twice in the neck, fatally wounding him.

“He fled the scene on foot.”

Jeevan said police are working hard to make an arrest, and they have concrete evidence that the two murders are connected.
