Riverside fail to take honours

2014-03-27 00:00

RIVERSIDE Hockey Club’s men’s and women’s first teams came up short in the KZN Indoor Hockey League, failing to take the honours after the final round of fixtures were played last week.

The men were beaten 4-2 by the University of KwaZulu-Natal, who claimed the Super League title, while the women went down 3-5 to Collegians first team, enabling Kearsney’s women’s team to claim the crown.

Still, it was an encouraging season by all teams at Riverside, with the odd goal or two proving the deciding factor in being crowned champions.

Riverside will no doubt feel they could have pulled off title honours in both the men’s and women’s divisions, but they will now focus on the outdoor season and look to dominate on the astro.

There were some promising results and division champions crowned among the lower divisions, with an encouraging number of young and new players getting into the game.
