Road racing: Flat Bayside and hilly Chatsworth Marathon

2008-10-16 00:00

Road racing commences tomorrow at Richards Bay, where the fast and flat Bayside 15-km run and 10-km walk, hosted by the Canon Richards Bay Club, tales place.

The two distances commence from Bay Hall at 3 pm and entries will be taken at the start.

The route takes runners through the protected forest and around the suburb of Meerensee. All finishers receive medals and there are cash prizes for overall and age group winners. Pat Curran has more details on 072 772 2045.

The main race this weekend is Sunday’s Chatsworth Half Marathon and 15 km, which commences from the Ridge Shopping Centre in Shallcross. This route was used last year and while less hilly than previous routes, it does have a steep sting in the tail.

This is a popular event that benefits from community support and encouragement along the route. Finishers get medals and there are cash prizes for category winners. The 15-km race is open to runners and walkers and commences at 6 am. There is also a five-kilometre fun run.

Entries are taken tomorrow and on race morning. Dees Govender has more details on 083 785 4333.

The first youth, junior and senior league one has been postponed to November 7, 5.30 pm, at King’s Park Athletics Stadium. This is open to athletes 15 years and older.
