Robbers leave six victims unharmed

2012-12-05 00:00

THE Theron family of Banners Rest in Port Edward say they are grateful they were left unharmed during a recent armed robbery at their home.

Four men entered their home at about 4 am on Friday, after cutting the burglar bars at the kitchen window.

Dannie Theron and his wife Johanna were fast asleep as three of the men made their way into their bedroom.

“I woke up with a shock when I heard one of them cock the gun.

“He then put the gun to my head. Two other men surrounded my wife and started barking orders,” said Theron.

A fourth robber appeared.

“I was scared because there are five women in my house — my wife, mother and three daughters,” he said.

The men ordered Theron to remain under the covers and ordered his wife out of bed.

She was asked to lead the men to the safe and to show them where the valuables were.

By then two of Theron’s daughters, aged 16 and 13, had heard the commotion and came into their parents’ room to see what was happening.

“My daughters were asked to sit on the floor while the robbers took our belongings. Luckily my other daughter and mother were still asleep,” he said.

Theron said they all remained calm and listened to what the robbers said.

“I told them to take whatever they wanted and not to harm us. Thankfully, we were not hurt,” he said.

The robbers fled with cash, digital equipment, a watch collection and cellphones.

Two men have been arrested and are being questioned by police.
