Robbers pour paraffin on woman

2010-10-28 00:00

POLICE are looking for three armed men who poured paraffin on an elderly woman’s body before threatening to burn her during a house robbery in Wartburg, outside Pietermaritzburg, last week.

Loodewyk Muller (82) and his wife Dorothy were watching TV at about 8 pm in their Thorpe Lodge Farm, Noodsburg Road, when the three men entered. Two attackers were armed with firearms while the third one had paraffin, which he first poured on the couple’s dog. They assaulted Muller and his wife with his walking stick when he told them that he did not have cash.

“One of the suspects then ransacked the house whilst the other suspect poured paraffin over the wife and threatened to burn her,” said Jeevan. After taking R30 cash, IDs and passports, the attackers were interrupted by the arrival of the couple’s son and they ran away.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan has appealed to anyone who might have information about the attack to contact Constable Cyprian Mabaso at 033 503 1019 or 076 979 1587 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
