Robbers shoot, injure brave granny

2014-07-14 00:00

A BRAVE Pietermaritzburg grandmother is in a critical condition in hospital after being shot by three robbers who ransacked her neighbour’s home in Darjeeling Heights at around midnight on Friday.

The 67-year-old spotted the thieves from her balcony and screamed for help. In response, the robbers fired gunshots, hitting her in the stomach.

The robbers, who forced open the front door of the neighbouring house, stole a TV, laptop and an amplifier before running off. They also allegedly shot at officers of ADT Security who arrived at the house.

Chris Botha, media liaison officer for Netcare911, said paramedics found the elderly woman critically wounded.

“After they stabilised her at the scene, paramedics transported her to a local hospital,” he added.
