Robbery: Two nabbed when getaway car breaks down

2012-09-14 00:00

TWO suspects linked to the attack and robbery of Wartburg farmer Rudolf Meyer (53) were arrested after their getaway car broke down in Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday.

Another four suspects were arrested in and near Greytown on the same day.

This brings the total number of arrests of those linked to the crime — which happened earlier that day — to six.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge said two of the six were arrested when police patrolling Church Street in Pietermaritzburg came across the car which had broken down.

“They then stopped and searched the vehicle and found a large amount of .22 live rounds and R1 300 in cash.” He said the vehicle fitted the description given by the victim and that the live rounds and cash were stolen in the robbery.

After the two were arrested, the police went to Greytown where they found another three suspects walking along the main road, who were also arrested.

After further investigation police arrested another suspect at a house in the Msinga area outside Greytown.
