Rovers fail to take advantage of Crusaders’ slip

2014-02-13 00:00

PREMIER League log leaders Crusaders slipped up against Chatsworth Sporting at the weekend, while Berea Rovers suffered their second successive defeat, failing to make the most of Crusaders’ mishap.

Rovers hosted Chatsworth Sporting, the visitors compiling a useful 282-5, Deepak Anand unlucky to miss his century with a well played 94.

The Rovers bowlers and fielders had to dig deep to stem the flow of runs, Dylan Buckthorpe best with the ball in claiming 3-58 in his 10 overs.

In reply, Rovers were bowled out for 272, with a number of batsmen unable to build on solid starts. Kyle Buckthorp (42), Nick Pentz (32) and Byron Langley (36) kept Rovers in the hunt but departed at crucial moments, allowing the bowlers to assert their authority once more.

Having lost the previous week to Delta, it was key for Rovers to get back on track in their quest for Premier League honours and, in the light of their rivals Crusaders losing, this will be seen as a missed opportunity when reflecting on what could have been in the season.

Crusaders only had to chase 180 for a win against DHS Rhythm, but were skittled for 110 as Ainsley Ndlovu (5-25) and Kyle Hodnett (3-28) wrecked the innings.

These results see Rovers slip to third in the league for the first time this season as DHS Rhythm climbed to second. Crusaders are still top with 55 points from 15 matches, while DHS Rhythm are well in touch on 52 points. Rovers have fallen back to 48 points, with Delta (37) and Topham (35) closing the top five.

This weekend is the all important clash between Rovers and Crusaders at Rovers, with Rovers desperate for a win.
