Rovers get a proper thumping

2012-06-16 00:00

THERE was no escape for Rovers in KZN Men’s Super League action as Maritzburg Varsity ran out 6-0 winners at Queensmead in Durban.

Former South Africa striker and player/coach at Varsity, Craig Haley, netted five of the six goals, two coming from the penalty spot, plus two penalty corners and one field goal, while the remaining goal went to the hardworking Justin Domleo from a penalty corner.

Varsity are due to meet underdogs PMB Collegians in Super League action at 12.30 pm tomorrow at the AB Jackson Greenfields Turf in a match-up worth watching.

Meanwhile, Western Province will be defending their title when the SA Women’s Interprovincial Tournament takes place in Johannesburg from August 19 to 25, while KZN Coastal Raiders have it all to do in holding on to their remarkable three consecutive national titles when the SA Men’s IPT kicks off in Bloemfontein from August 26 to September 1.
