Royal Show: concert to mark queen’s jubilee on Sunday

2012-05-23 00:00

MUSIC fans have the chance to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee with A Royal Symphony, a sparkling concert of music at 11 am on Sunday at the Royal Agricultural Show in Pietermaritzburg.

Said Cameron Mackenzie, spokesperson for concert sponsors, Parklane SuperSpar: “It seems only appropriate that an orchestral concert at the Royal Show, which was granted official ‘Royal’ status in 1904, presents something that acknowledges the Diamond Jubilee celebrations in London beginning later in the week …”

The concert will take place in the main arena and replaces the annual Concert in the Park in the National Botanical Gardens.

It features the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and three soloists.

The programme features a selection of light classical and popular works.

To attend A Royal Symphony you simply need to pay the normal Royal Show gate fee of R45 for adults, R30 for seniors and under 12s (free for pre-school children). Seating is provided in the main arena and in the grandstands.
