Royal Show visitors 20000 visitors

2011-05-27 00:00

THE Royal Show, which starts today, will offer plenty of entertainment for young and old visitors alike.

The hype for the event resulted in a busy traffic flow outside the showgrounds yesterday.

Traffic officers will be on hand throughout the show — which runs for 10 days — to keep motorists moving.

Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize will officially open the show at 5.30 pm today.

Carriage driving, polocrosse, the SA National Defence Force tattoo and a special anniversary firework display are among the entertainment events planned for today.

Royal Agricultural Society of Natal chief executive officer Terry Strachan said that about 190 000 to 220 000 visitors are expected, depending on the weather.

“This show over the years has continued to help Pietermaritzburg find its space in the sun,” Msunduzi Municipal spokesperson Brian Zuma said.

The show ends on June 5 with the Ukhozi FM concert.

Entrance is R45 for adults, R25 for children and senior citizens, and there is a special price on Wednesday of R25 for everyone. The Ukhozi FM concert will cost R50, with R5 donated to charity.
