Royal Show visitors hit 65 000

2008-05-27 00:00

Since the opening of the Royal Agricultural Show last Friday, 65 000 people have visited the line-up of entertainment, agriculture and the variety of other displays.

Terry Strachan, the general manager of RAS, said that things are going “magnificently well” for the show.

Industrial exhibitors like Reapers and Caterpillar have been happy with the purchasing of their equipment “despite the tight economy and high interest rates,” he said.

The SABC Mobile Road Show will be performing two kiddies’ lunchtime shows today and tomorrow and will be lots of fun for all school children who love the popular SABC kiddies show characters.

Another attraction to look out for is the landing of the SAAF Rooivalk tomorrow at around lunchtime. “It is the world’s top attack helicopter and it will be landing in the main arena,” said Strachan.

On Friday and Saturday, the dog fraternity will bring their best friends along for crowd-pleasing canine displays of agility.

The best cinnamon and sugar pancakes made by the Pancake King Renier van Rensburg and his team of six other pancake makers can be found at the Snowflake stall in Hall One called the Festival of Fine Living Food hall.

About 6 000 light fluffy pancakes are being made every day at the show.

Van Rensburg, dubbed the Pancake King in 1984, is a consultant for Snowflake and has his own franchise Pancake King, all over the country.

Van Rensburg tried to work out how many pancakes he has made in the past 22 years and came up with a figure of around 28 million.

Also being sold at the stand are non-stick fry pans, valued at R209 each. Van Rensburg has knocked down that price to R129 and will give away a non-stick pan to the first person who cuts out this article and takes it to the Snowflake stall in Hall one.
