Royals stroll to 30-run win over Highveld Lions

PRAVIN Tambe nabbed four wickets as the Rajasthan Royals cruised to a 30-run win over the bizhub Highveld Lions in their Champions League Twenty20 match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur yesterday.

Leg-spinner Tambe ended with the wonderful figures of 3-0-15-4 as the Lions were held to 153-9 in reply to Rajasthan’s 183-5.

The Lions had won the toss and elected to field and they had seemed in control of the match until Brad Hodge blazed 46 not out off just 23 balls with six fours and two sixes.

The Royals’ innings was given a good start by opening bat Rahul Dravid (31) before Shane Watson provided the innings with a bit of impetus with a dashing 33 off 24 balls.

Stuart Binny blazed his way to 38 off 20 balls as he and Hodge added 43 for the fourth wicket.

Binny was bowled by medium-pacer Dwaine Pretorius but Hodge ensured the innings ended on a high note as he was chiefly responsible for the Royals scoring 21 runs off the final over of their innings, bowled by Sohail Tanveer.

Left-arm quick Lonwabo Tsotsobe ended with figures of 2-26 while Pretorius claimed 2-27.

The Lions lost wickets at regular intervals with Quinton de Kock (18), Rassie van der Dussen (14) and Temba Bavuma (0) all departing in quick succession.

Petersen and Hardus Viljoen (24), who had been sent in as a pinch-hitter, gave the Lions a chance with a 53-run fourth-wicket stand.

But the introduction of the 41-year-old Tambe saw the Lions stumble in their run chase as the leg-spinner removed Viljoen, Jean Symes (3) and Tanveer, as well as Petersen.
