Rugby: opportunity to see best rugby talent from KZN schools

2011-06-15 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal schools’ sides selected recently will have their first provincial outing tomorrow when they take on sides from Mpumalanga at Glenwood.

For rugby enthusiasts this will be a good opportunity to see the best rugby talent coming from KwaZulu-Natal schools.

There will be seven games in all played on two fields starting with the U16B and Academy B sides against their Puma counterparts at 8.15 pm.

The top three games to watch will be the U16 Grant Khomo side at 9.30 am, the U18 Craven week team at 10.45 am and the Sharks U19A at noon.

Of special interest will be the presence of the three Du Preez brothers from Kearsney, sons of Robert, who played scrumhalf for the Springboks and the Sharks, in the Craven Week side, surely a unique occurrence in school’s

rugby.

There is some concern regarding the Craven Week scrumhalf Stefan Ungerer, from Maritzburg College, who injured his ankle against

Glenwood on Saturday.

Many will remember the injury to the Glenwood player and selected Craven Week flyhalf, Fred Zeilinga, in the match between the two schools last year, where he broke his ankle and was unable to

represent his province in Craven Week.

At this stage it is not known whether the injury will allow

Ungerer to play at Craven week in Kimberley from July 11 to July 16.

The Academy week is in Johan- nesburg from June 26 to

June 30 and the U16 Grant Khomo week takes place from July 3 to July 7 in East London.
