Rundle to defend his BSI title

2013-10-25 00:00

THE BSI Maritzburg Open will take place at Maritzburg Golf Club this Sunday. The tournament is in its 23rd year and alternates each year between the Victoria Country Club and MGC. There are important points at stake for the players which determine the KZN amateur rankings.

MGC, a par 72 lay-out, is in good condition in spite of the lack of rain in the Midlands area and the greens have responded well to the September spring treatment.

There is an encouraging entry for the A Division (9 handicaps & below) with 65 players. The B Division has 29 players. Kevin Rundle, the 2012 Champion, is back to defend his title and others in contention this year are his fellow KZN team-mates Keagan Thomas (Zimbali), Chris Cordier (Victoria) and Malcom Mitchell (Howick/MGC).

Whilst the aforementioned big guns may be the stars of the show there are a number of other distinguished players in the running, namely Derek Scullard (MECC), Shaun Pollock (Cotswold Downs) and Kwanele Mkhoma (Port Shepstone).

There is no entrance fee to watch play on Sunday.
