Runner goes the distance for Hospice

2010-06-22 00:00

PIETERMARITZBURG’S Libby Bhika is encouraging other athletes to become involved with local charities after she raised R11 000 for the Msunduzi Hospice by running the 2010 Comrades Marathon.

Supported by staff and doctors at the Midlands Medical Centre and by friends and family, Bhika raised R7 000 more than she expected to.

“I would really urge people to do what little they can for local charities,” she said.

“Little things really do go a long way,” she added.

Bhika said she was encouraged by the support and good wishes that she had received. “It was truly amazing,” she said.

She added that while many runners use the Comrades as an opportunity to raise funds for charity, thousands more can do the same.
