Rural voice: UN listens to Ngubane

SIZANI Ngubane, director of the Rural Women’s Movement, (RWM) has been invited by two international organisations to address conferences held by the United Nations at the UN headquarters in New York in February.

Civicus: Alliance for Citizen Participation has invited Ngubane to be a member of the panel during the Civil Society Participation in Sustainable Development Debate, which forms part of the run up to Rio+20, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development to be be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June. The panel will discuss “Making Rio+20 Count for Rural Women”.

She will also be part of a workshop with the Commission on the Status of Women under the auspices of the International Women’s Alliance.

Ngubane found the RWM in KZN in 1998 and the original 250 members have grown to nearly 50 000. — WR.
