SA ‘Naked News’ online this weekend

2010-05-15 00:00

GOING naked with the news proved to be more difficult than expected, but the South African version of Naked News will be available online this weekend.

It was initially meant to be up and running online on May 7 but project manager Melissa Douman said yesterday: “Although the pilot shoot was meant to be up this week we have to go through the Canadian branch. They have to put it online, which they have not done yet.”

There is only one local news anchor who is baring it all, so viewers who use the South African service will also receive news from stripping Canadian anchors.

“Although they are Canadian anchors, the news is global,” said Douman.

The local anchor, Amy-Leigh Murphy (34), said she saw the advert and thought she would give it a go.

“I have always been interested in news as a job and I like to keep up-to-date with current affairs,” she said.

The search for more local presenters “willing to read the news absolutely naked” is on.

Naked News can be watched at www.nakednews.co.za and on cellphones by SMSing the words “naked” or “news” to 31910 or 41294. The subscription varies between R10 per week or R5 per day.
