SA hockey and Investec to end five-year partnership in February

2014-12-06 00:00

THE South African Hockey Association and Investec yesterday announced they will be exiting their partnership when it comes to an end on February 28, 2015. This brings to a close Investec’s successful five-year sponsorship of the South African Women’s Hockey team.

“All sponsorships have a logical lifespan. When we embarked on this sponsorship, there was a compelling proposal to help the team participate in the Olympics in 2012 as well as the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

“We are proud to have played a part in this tremendous accomplishment,” said Investec’s Janet Larsen.

Marissa Langeni from the South African Hockey Association commented: “We would like to thank Investec for their unwavering support and sponsorship of the SA National Women’s Hockey team. It has been an amazing journey and partnership over the last five years with many goals and milestones achieved during this time.

“We are pleased to say that Investec’s sponsorship helped inspire many a budding hockey player and ultimately propelled the national team into a household brand within women’s sport in South Africa.”

Larsen added: “For the last five years, we have worked closely with Saha and the group of remarkable individuals that make up the South African Women’s Hockey team.

Investec remains committed to the sport and specifically to hockey development through the ongoing support of school hockey and with the planned launch of the Investec Women’s Hockey Academy in 2015.

Investec has been involved in school hockey since 2008 through its sponsorship of the St Mary’s hockey festival. The four-day event in April brings together qualifying girls’ schools from around the country to compete.

This year saw 32 schools participating and Investec has extended the festival sponsorship until 2017, with naming rights from 2015.

The Investec Hockey Academy is presently being established and will be up and running in 2015.

The academy will offer a range of high performance courses for girls.
