SA schools XI and SA Colts XI squads named

2011-12-22 00:00

AFTER the dinner at the end of the fifth day of the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola cricket week a SA Schools XI and a SA Colts XI squad were named. The selectors must have had an unenviable task as sides lost against less fancied opposition and batsmen generally found the conditions difficult.

This was evident as only two centuries were scored over the five days and it was the bowlers that generally dominated. The competition for places in the teams would have been most difficult among the opening bowlers. As with any selections there are always players who are perceived to be fortunate and others who are unlucky not to get the nod.

On pure statistics Jurie Snyman (Jeugland) from Easterns scored more runs than some of the batsmen that were chosen. In the bowling department, Daryn Dupavillon (M College) was one of the top wicket-takers and together with Kyle Simmonds (Westville) and Sebastian Golding (Bishops and WP) would have all been disappointed not to get the nod.

The SA Schools XI team will be captained by a KZN Coastal player Prenelan Subrayen from Glenwood. The Colts XI captain Ian Herold, is from St Andrews College in the Eastern Province.

KZN Coastals had a total of five players selected in the two teams, the next best being Boland with four. Despite Free State being one of the teams that had poor results, Grey College had two players selected, one for each side.

The only other school with more than one player selected was St Stithians with two players in the Colts XI.
