SA sports awards: Hashim AMLA heading for the treble

PROTEAS star Hashim Amla, who was named the CSA Fans’ Cricketer of the Year at the 2011 SA Cricket Awards in June , is in line to add two more major fan accolades to his name.

Amla is nominated for the Sports Star of the Year award to be presented at the SA Sports Awards at the Sun City Super Bowl on Sunday.

He is in contention with swimming sensation Cameron van den Berg, Springbok Sevens flyhalf Cecil Africa, Masters golf champion Charl Schwartzel and prolific Banyana Banyana striker Noko Matlou.

Fans can SMS “Sport” and the letter “E” to 34760 to vote for Amla.

Amla has also been nominated for the LG People’s Choice Award, due to be presented at the 2011 LG ICC Awards on September 12.

Others nominated include India’s ICC Cricket World Cup winning captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Chris Gayle of the West Indies, Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and England’s Jonathan Trott.

The Proteas vice-captain is the No. 1-ranked ODI batsman on the Reliance Mobile ODI Rankings.

Voting closes on Sunday at 7.30 pm.
