SACP vows to back ANC in next general elections

2015-01-14 00:00

THE South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Moses Mabhida region has vowed to back the ruling ANC in the next general elections to ensure an overwhelming victory.

This it said at its 7th Provincial Congress held recently at Esayidi FET College in Umzimkhulu. More than 850 delegates from 329 branches and 21 districts attended the congress.

The SACP declared that it “commits itself to work together with the alliance partners and progressive forces to ensure [an] overwhelming victory for the ANC during local government elections in 2016”.

It also took swipes at the Democratic Alliance (DA) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

“Their bullying tactics, hurling of insults and their disregard of parliamentary rules at every turn in the quest to dominate [the] politics of opposition has cornered the DA to degenerate to this low level [of] politics lest they are superseded by EFF headlines,” reads its statement.

The SACP said the National Union of Metalworkers of SA’s (Numsa) newly formed United Front party indicated that Numsa’s top leadership “has been captured by the long-standing elements within it that had always been opposed to the trade union being in alliance with the ANC”.

The congress also committed itself to building a strong Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) as well as its affiliates.

Resolutions taken included engaging the trade unions and the Department of Education to address instability in the handling of education matters in the province, and a demand for the running of eThekwini Transport to the council.
