SACP want all probes made public

2012-03-06 00:00

ALL forensic investigations involving all spheres of the government must be publicly released.

This is one of the resolutions taken by the South African Communist Party’s (SACP) KwaZulu-Natal provincial council, which held its first meeting under new leadership in Durban recently.

The SACP’s call follows an outcry over the withholding of some portions of the Manase Commission report into allegations of fraud and corruption within the eThekwini municipality.

This week the Democratic Alliance threatened to apply for the use of the Access to Information Act if the full report is not publicly released by month end.

SACP provincial secretary, Themba Mthembu said decisive action must be taken against those fingered by forensic reports, “even if they are within the movement”.

The SACP also called for an investigation into the privatisation of municipal public transport, reported irregularities and maladministration within metro police, and grants in aid.

The SACP welcomed the recent decision by the ANC provincial executive committee to review the tender system.
