2013-05-16 00:00

FRESH from winning three South African Music Awards at Sun City on May 11, Toya Delazy has yet more to celebrate after it was announced that she is a nominee for Best International Act, Africa, at the 2013 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards in Los Angeles.

The singer has enjoyed huge success with her debut album Due Drop Deluxe.

She told The Witness yesterday : “It was such a surprise when I found out I have been nominated for best international act, Africa, in this year’s BET Awards.

“It’s so exciting. I think I’m still in shock. I’m honoured to be in a category with such amazing artists, especially fellow South African Donald. He’s a great artist and I hope we can make SA proud.

“This will be the first time I’ll be going to LA, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Delazy and Afro-pop artist Donald Moatshe will be competing against 2Face Idibia and Ice Price from Nigeria, R2Bees from Ghana and Radio and Weasel from Uganda.

The BETs were created in 2001 to celebrate the achievements of African Americans and other minorities in sports, music, acting and other fields of entertainment. The awards will take place on Tuesday, July 2.
