SPCA: drive to raise R5 million

2010-08-25 00:00

THE Pietermaritzburg SPCA is running an intensive fundraising and education campaign.

In 2009, the association attended to 4 915 dogs and 2 036 cats, of which only 1 406 were re-housed.

To help such animals, the local SPCA needs R5 million a year. It raises R3,6 million through pound costs, boarding facilities, clinic charges and functions and relies on donations for the balance.

“There is so much that we hope to do with more money,” said fundraiser Leanne Jamieson. “Our outreach programme, which involves sterilising and treating animals in the rural areas, is just an example. We … aim for a time when every animal … in our country is treated with love and respect,”

Prospective donors can contact Jamieson at 084 582 1247.
